How do i get rid of ingrown hairs on your legs?

for the past 3 years ive gotten alot of ingrown hairs on my legs. and now its to the point were its leaving really ugly black scars on my legs. I dont know how to get rid of the black scars or prevent myself from getting more ingrown hairs. help!
