How do you go about becoming a tattoo artist?

Should I go back to the same tattoo artist?

  • I got a tattoo and the artist and I didn't communicate well. The result was something I didn't like (and something I don't think my tattoo artist was proud of). I went back almost 2 months later and got it redone by the same artist. It turned out amazing. I loved it! 4 days later, it started peeling, taking with it most of the shading and textured lines we added. I took proper care of it, however I might have been over moisturizing with lotion. The tattoo now looks similar to the first one. This is a very respected and highly rated tattoo artist in my area. I have seen her work and know she is an amazing artist. However, I feel like tattoo looks cheap and flat. Should I go back to her for a 3rd touch up or seek out another tattoo artist?

If you aren't satisfied with the result of the work, go elsewhere. You are paying good money for a service, and not just a service, but something that will be with you the rest of your life. Most good tattoo studios have a photo album of their work, just because you go in doesn't mean you have to sit in their chair. You can go in, speak to them, peruse their art, and make a decision later. I visited my guy three or four times before he ever put a needle in my skin. He's been doing my work for over 20 years now.

Talk to different tat artists. If you trust your regular artist, then please go ahead. And communication is very important.
