Is it wrong to have tattoos that are dedicated to the deceased?

Are tattoos wrong and should I get one?

  • Ok so I'm seventeen almost 18 and I've always wanted some tattoos. I'm an artistic person and all of my tattoos would be my creations that mean something in my life or something important to me. I would never get like a tribal tattoo, although they look cool, its not me. At most I'd get a chest piece, a half sleeve and my knuckles. But my mom always says that tattoos are wrong and are harmful. Does anyone agree. I mean I wouldn't get anything huge or something dumb. I'd get tattoos that mean something to me not just something that looks cool. But anyways, does anyone agree with my mom? Or should I just do what I want when I'm on my own?

  • Answer:

Well personally if i got a tattoo it would be something meaningful. And just remember that they will be on there forever unless you pay big bucks to get them removed.

One of my friends once said "never get a tattoo until you stop to consider what the people who change your bedpan in the the nursing home will think." Do you still like the same bands you did 10 years ago? Where the same clothes? What makes you think you will like the same designs in 30 years? Tattoos can also hurt your career in some fields. I find the specific tattoos you are considering Ill advised. Knuckle tattoos suggest prison to some people and are hard to cover up in a job interview. Sleeves and half chest tattoos covers A LOT of skin. Personally, I think human skin can be beautiful. Much of the beauty of tattoos comes from the contrast between skin and tattoos. Too much coverage of the skin loses this. If you must get tattoos, start with something small. An armband or a point tattoo on the upper arm. Always stop to consider ALL your other tattoos and your career goals when you get a tattoo. Only go to a tattoo artist you trust COMPLETELY...(if they are sloppy with sterilization you can catch Hepatitis B.)

Every tattoo represents living in the moment and represents either that moment in time and how you felt and what was going on at the time in your life. All in all they look cool and say a lot about a persons personality and beliefs plus a lot of people find them attractive.

Tattoos are not wrong, nor harmful. I think you should get one. Especially if you get one that means something to you. You're going to be 18, and that's old enough to make decisions for yourself. Do it. :)
