Tell Me Everything You Know About Tattoo Artists/Jobs/Pay?

  • I am only 13, and i have always wanted to be a tattoo artist when i grow up. So I would appreciate it if you guys/girls can tell me which classes to take, how i should be training (Im saving up for an apprenticeship) How I can stand out of all the other tattoo artists, so i can have a pretty good education so i can do what i love. So give me every detail you guys know. Thanks!

ART ART ART ART.. Always be sketching, take art classes every chance you get. DRAW draw draw draw, you need to keep a folder or portfolio of you art. Please listen to me when I say DO NOT ever pay for an apprenticeship! If your art is good enough people will want you in their shops just for your artistic ability. When you are apprenticing you will not make any money, but you may get free tattoos, or your artists may tip you out if you are doing well. You will be cleaning tubes tips and grips. running them through an autoclave. Sweeping mopping ringing people up. Basically the shop beeotch but this is the price you must pay to get where you want. above all keep a portfolio on the progress of you art. and when your old enough to apprentice take your art in to shops in your area and show them why they need you.

Above all else your Art -the ability to draw- and the Tattoo's you choose to place on your body (when your of age) will make you stand out Do Not rush in-to getting Tattoo's wait until your old enough legally and do your research I've seen great people turned away because the tattoo's already on their body were so poorly done - it can turn customers away Start By Taking any and all of the art classes you can in school (AP especially) they are free and all the materials are provided AP- or advanced placement in art is offered at some schools as a high school senior this course is ment to get a portfolio ready for art school but in your case if you tell your teacher your dream of going on to be a Tattoo Artist they will help guide you outside of school go to local art stores (and professional artists) many offer art classes take cartooning, still life, and portraiture <<-- This YOU SHOULD HIGHLY consider ask your parents for art classes for your birthday or Christmas these things will help you be able to understand proper blending of colors, how to shade, and how to draw images in front of you so that you can create personalized Tattoo's and give you creativity trust me ART is important!

I do know that you have to be a pretty talented artist. So take as many art classes as you can. In school and in the community. You'll be glad you did.

to add to the above, pay should not be important. the tattoo artists that do really well are the ones that are in it more for the love of the art. you will get paid some days, some days you wont
