Tattoo portfolio help?

Tattoo Apprentiship ?

  • Im leaving school next year (uk) ill be 16 and looking for a tattoo apprentiship however i know they are very very hard to come by and my portfolio must really stand out from the others to be able to be took on , but the decision id like yous to help me with is college Iff i tried lots of shops and not one was intrested would i have made a mistake not going to college ? Tattoing is what i really want to do and i dont want to give up and go to college for years and uni to get a unfufilling job that may pay more than tattoing but i wont enjoy. however i think ill need something to fall back on if i dont sucseed .ive been told by a tattoo artist Art college isnt needed for tatooing , youve either got talent or havent, although i do love art im strangely more intrested in the actual tattoing part of the job .(also piercings) I do know art college may help me sucseed but i dont really want to be with stuck up people (as like school) . Believe me im not a negative person but i find it hard to make new friends out of no fault of my own as i do try but ppl arent usually intrested so id rather do tatooing and be with ppl more like myself :) any Help and ideas would be much much appreciated thanks xxxx

Anyone can be taught how to tattoo. Only an artist can be taught how to tattoo well. Work on your portfolio.

I would encourage you to always have something to fall back on. You can pursue school and still keep working on your portfolio. Your really young still as well.. I would encourage you to read up, study trends, and use social networking sites to help you. Meet different artist especially locally. You need to make friends with them and then you can sorta learn stuff unofficially. Even if it is just to show them your designs and have them critique them. picking a tat in mins..YES finally http://budurl.com/choosemytattoo?

its definitely a plus to have something to fall back on. i too am getting into the industry (17, left school before 16) so i know the position you are in, however I studied graphic design to learn the pre-press and printing side of it as i had been designing since 12-13 and thought hey i want to do this as a career, now its my fall back/hobby. keep trying even if you get rejected, it helps if you know people in the industry/are friends with them. it gives you more insight and opportunities. just keep in mind before you get to the good stuff, you have to do the dirty work first. sounds weird but i actually love cleaning the equipment and the studio.
