Am I having an allergic reaction to tattoo ink?

Reaction to black tattoo ink?

  • I'm getting my third tattoo tomorrow. I have noticed that in my first two, any ink that is black seems raised (they are both completely healed for over a year) and everything else is normal and unnoticeable to the touch. Am I reacting to the black ink? Also, should I ask my artist tomorrow not to use any black to avoid this?

  • Answer:

Well it may be the black ink, or the artist may put the outlines too deep which causes scarring. So its either the ink or the artist. I reccomend trying a new artist first.

It very well could be a reaction to the ink, I had a reaction to some Japanese Sumi ink, the kind that comes in a small organic block that you rub in a small pan of distilled water to make the ink. I broke out something fierce. When he switched to another ink at my insistence, problem solved.

that happens with every tattoo, most allergic reactions are caused by green inks, its because your tattoo is healing, even when you wax the skin gets raised and can become like that for some time.

There has been a problem with black ink in the whole tattoo world. The best maker wont sell it in quantity anymore, so many people are using cheap substitutes. Find a tattoo artist that still uses "Pelikan Ink". It's the safest but expensive.
