Why is my skin rejecting the ink?

Why is the ink coming out of my tattoo?

  • A year ago I got a tatto on my side, below my ribs but above my hip. It's a proverb so it's just lettering. About 6 months ago I got what felt like a bug bite in one of the letters. I picked at it a little bit, scratching because it itched and trying to get the poison out so it would stop and heal. I didn't think anything of it. Now a few days ago I got another one in another letter, so I was picking at it again because it itches and even stings, way worse than the last one. But this time, there's no blood or anything coming out of it, just a small hole in the skin with a dark colored scab over it that, no matter how hard I try, will NOT come off. It looks as though the scab is ink! I asked my boyfriend and he said the same thing, he thinks it's ink coming out of it and that's what the scab is. I know this thing will go away and heal but I'm afraid my body is slowly rejecting the ink in my tattoo. Why would it do it in little pockets like this, and sting so bad? And why wouldn't my first two tattoos have done this??

  • Answer:

It sounds more like an eczema patch. Your tattoo was already fully healed there would be no ink coming out of it. If your body rejected the ink you'd know after the tattoo cause you'd get really sick. When you scratch at eczema it gets a dark scab on it just keep your tattoo moisterized and you should be fine. If you still have concern go to the shop you got it at and ask them. I have never heard. Of ink coming out of an older tattoo. Since the skin is tattooed the scab will look like its your tattoo. The ink can only fade over time not scab off.
