Tattooed men. Why did you get tattoos? Do any guys in your family have them?
-
I was just wondering about other people's reasons for getting tattoos. I have a lot and someone asked me "Why?" the other day and I just never really thought about it. I just always knew I would get ink. I wanted tattoos since I was a little kid. My uncles are tattoo artists, all the guys in my family have tattoos and it was just always something I wanted to do. I always thought ink was cool and planned mine out for years as a teen. When I really think about it, I have a lot of reasons: 1) I like the way they look. 2) WOMEN like the way they look too! Girlfriends touch them a lot also and like to trace them, carress them etc and it feels really good. Bonus! I always saw chicks do this to their man's tattoos and thought it was HOT! Even as a little boy I would think "I want a girl to touch my tattoos like that when I grow up!" hahaha! 3) The guys in my family all have them and its sort of a tradition. 4) I'm not a big dude physically. I am 5'9 and 165 so I guess maybe in some ways my ink is a symbol of strength, manhood or whatever for me. If I was a huge guy I would probably have ink too but maybe not as much. I notice that the more ink I get, the more I tend to intimidate others. I think it's funny though, because I am a very laid-back guy but with this much ink, nobody ever starts trouble with me! 5) I'm a regular looking, blond white guy without ink. I consider myself average looking I guess, not ugly but not really handsome either. With my ink I am unique. It's a way to express who I am, tell my story and whatever. Without it I would just be a boring, regular looking dude and girls would not look as much. I really feel that my ink sets me apart. I was always a confident person but with my tattoos I feel a lot more so. I take off my shirt and people go "Whoa, COOL!" instead of just ignoring me like before I had ink, so the attention can be nice. So people, why do YOU have ink? Guys and gals feel free to answer. I mainly am curious about the men though. Did male family members have ink too? Were you inspired by someone as a child to get tattoos? How old were you when you first thought about getting tattoos? Why did you get them and what do they symbolize to you?

Answer:
Well I basically got my tattoo because of my family name, I have a Gryphon on my right bicep and that, to me, is a symbol of Pride, Strength, and Determination. I'm planning on getting a second tattoo of the name "GRYPHON" going down my left side of my body. I admit that in a way tattoos make give me a sign of strength, and females like to touch my tattoos alot. So yeah I'm pretty much in the same boat as you.

I've actually always wanted tattoos ever since I was little as well. My great grandfather had them on his arms, and my uncles had tattoos as well. I begged my mom since I was 13 to get a tattoo but she always told me 'next year' it never happened until I was 19, but that's because I did a lot of research on artists before I finally chose mine. Anyway, my first tattoo is based on my past when I was diagnosed with panic disorder, honestly was the scariest time of my life.. lasted 4 years until I really could control the panic attacks. I had to get an ultra sound on my heart because I had terrible anxiety pains which made me think I was having a heart attack. If it werent for all that I would still be the careless child I was back in the day, I wouldn't see how precious life really is and I wouldn't be as strong. The piece is on my upper back it's of a real heart with a hole inside of it, along with it outstretched bat wings.. The bat wings are actually to signify that I 'flew away from it all' I know that might sound cheesy, but I really have come such a long way. All of my tattoos are custom and relate to my life in so many ways. When I was younger I just wanted tattoos because I just loved the way they look. I guess I could thank my hardship for that as well, or I'd probably have a bunch of flash on my body. haha ;]
well, although i am female, i have 8 tattoos and plan on many more but unlike you even though my dad did have tattoos he was always telling us that he regretted them and that we shouldnt get any. i guess it sank in with my brother because he is still pretty against them but i love them. i think the artwork one can get done is amazing and definitely a way for you to stand out and be unique. i like being able to accent certain parts of my body with them and i like being able to represent different things about me or different things that mean alot to me and have them apart of me for the rest of my life. a lot of people say that i dont look like the 'type of person' to have tattoos but i was always facinated with them and i wish i had more!
i got my first tattoo because i wanted to get one in memory of my uncle my second one is going to be in honor of my grandfather. Granted my girlfriend does like tracing them and she even has two of them. i was prob around 12 or 13 when i thought about getting one and im 18 now
