What is the difference between a swallow tattoo and a sparrow tattoo?

I wanna get a tattoo of a swallow or sparrow but i can't find differences online... help!?

  • i keep looking online for the differences between symbolism in swallows and sparrows. one website showed a bunch of stuff about swallows and then just about how sparrows aren't that way. then another website was describing sparrows like the other website described swallows. basically, i can't find online how they are different, people seem to think they are the same or one is a way the other should be or whatever. i really want to know before i just go get a tattoo of something.

    Swallows are the ones you are thinking of; they have the scissor-tail. Some people just say sparrows because that's a more common word, but they are totally different birds. Sailor Jerry swallows are very traditional and pretty.

a swallow means your releasing something while a sparrow means you feel free.

If you don't know the difference, you shouldn't get one tattooed on your body!

the main thing to consider is what you think. it dosent matter what other people say the meaning is, everyone has a different idea of what they mean. just get the one you like best and will be happy with for ever. for example; a 'strength' tattoo could be a chain,dragon,tiger,dumbell etc. everyone has their own reason to get something, a ladybird might mean beauty to 1 person and freedom to another... just go with what you think.

From what I can tell, the tattoos of both birds look very similar. Here is what wikipedia has to say about each bird, but really I don't think it would be too much of a big deal to pick either one.

im not sure about sparrows but sailors identified swallows as close to home because swallow birds would not travel too far from home.
