How to make SEO url?

How do I make Website URL's SEO Friendly?

• I have a website http://www.cthuning.co.uk it is an ecommerce website selling car tuning and styling products. It is made using php and has ecommerce content management system. On every page I go on I have a long and very untidy url such as: http://www.cthtuning.co.uk/index.php?cPath=83 Instead of http://www.cthtuning.co.uk/engine Whic is what I am trying to achieve. I have looked on many forums and videos on youtube, some people have mention the HT.access file but I don't have a clue what it means so don't wish to tamper. I know how re-write a URL individually but there is nearly 6,000 pages on my site so I will not be doing that! Can some please advise me how i can alter all the URL's at once making them tidy, clean, short and most of all Google friendly? I would really appreciate your help as I have exhausted all options.   While your preferred URL, i.e. .../engine is better, google is quite good at indexing the url that you and other humans find confusing. The simplest way to do it would be to make changes to the underlying php of the website to 'move' the page once a really strong keyword is defined. The algorithm would also have to account for collisions and even provide for an override if the user wanted to define the keyword. Furthermore, with 6000 pages the code would need a 'review mode' to scan existing url's and reindex them with the new url. Meanwhile, if google has already indexed pages, there will be some confusion and lower ranking during the time between when google thinks it is seeing duplicate content on your website and it actually has looked at the new address enough times to '86' the old indexing under the confusing URL and index the page's content under the new URL. If your are not a php programmer, prepare to spend five to ten thousand pounds.
