Are there any jobs for 15-year-olds in Ohio?

Will McCain's role in the loss of thousands of Ohio jobs affect the vote outcome there?

  • Facing questions about his role in a deal that established a DHL shipping hub in Wilmington, Ohio, John McCain has scheduled a meeting on Thursday afternoon with residents of the town to discuss a proposal by the company to shut the air park — a move that would cost Wilmington over 8,000 jobs. In 2003, McCain and his campaign manager Rick Davis, then a lobbyist, helped push through the senate a merger between foreign-owned DHL and a domestic company that brought the hub, and its many jobs, to Wilmington, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer. But now that the company may close the air park as a cost-saving measure, Democrats are calling on McCain to use his past links to the company to help save the thousands of jobs at stake. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/08/07/mccain-to-meet-with-ohio-residents-facing-job-losses/ Why should Ohio residents trust McCain with their economic futures?

  • Answer:

If they got any sense, they won't vote for him. But then again, Bill Clinton costs them thousands of jobs too and they still voted for Hillary. So what do I know? However, I do know this one truth: When you vote for the wrong person, you get what you deserve. That's why when I see our young men and women dying in a senseless war, my conscience is clear. I didn't vote for W.

The "merger" your referring to, kept the company from going bankrupt, to start with. The economy has only worsened since then and NO one has the right to expect ANY company, to operate constantly in the red. McCain has promised to do whatever he can, but what your referring to here, is only ONE of hundreds of companies every day, facing the same bleak outlook. SO your BIASED leading statement, that McCain is costing these jobs is bogus and lame........he could save them, while Obamaman does what ? Order MORE tire pressure gauges ?

Because Obama will guarantee that those who lose their jobs won't be able to find a new job.

I think it's pretty clear McCain doesn't care about the plight of average Americans. Most of the new policies he's adopted benefit wealthy individuals and corporations. It's a continuation of the Bush policies that have resulted in the worst economy since the great depression. What McCain, Bush, and those who support laissez faire economic policies don't realize is that absolute deregulation and zero government oversight result in bubbles, abuses, and crashes. In the end, it helps destroy the middle class which a healthy economy relies upon. Most wealth generation, in fact, is achieved on the back of providing goods and services to that middle class. What many rich people fail to realize is that without a middle class, much of their wealth simply would not exist. Furthermore, attacks on the support structures of the middle class -- affordable healthcare, pensions, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, widely available cheap credit, debt forgiveness and other programs that helped make the US the strongest economy in the world following the ravages of the Great Depression -- reduce the wealth of the United States at large, while at the same time reducing the potential for people to move up in income brackets. Conservatives seem to think that everyone can be rich. The reality is that there are winners and there are losers. The support structures ensure that losers are pulled up by the bootstraps and given a second chance. Relevant quote from Hubert Humphrey: "Compassion is not weakness, and concern for the unfortunate is not socialism."
