Why does Karl Marx and Frederick Engels call for State or Government Ownership of the Means of Production ? I?

  • Why does Karl Marx and Frederick Engels call for State or Government Ownership of the Means of Production ? I want to know why state or government ownership is needed I mean why can't the the Means of Production be run by the Workers without State or Government ownership or control ? I want to become a Marxist but I don't really get this idea of State or Government ownership of the the Means of Production. Karl Marx and Frederick Engels Manifesto of the Communist Party 1848 II -- PROLETARIANS AND COMMUNISTS 7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state; the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan. http://www.anu.edu.au/polsci/marx/cl...manifesto.html

  • Answer:

Ownership of production also means ownership of property. That means no private property, which means you cannot own property. Think of it like this, does your town have a park? OK, that's property under Marxism. Now, you can buy a permit to sell hotdogs in the park but you never own any of it. In capitalism, you own a store where you sell hotdogs. You control the business and the client. In Marxism, control of production is necessary in order to regulate. This regulation must be in place so that no individual can prosper more than another. The ruling elite are the exception. These rules do not apply to them. Just you. Very much akin to voluntary slavery if you ask me. My two cents.

You want to become a Marxist?????? Jeezus H Cripes Can't you find somewhere else to play your 3 YO games

It's all about control. That's all communism is. Total control over the people.

Because if they trusted the people to own the means of production, then the people would just revert to being Capitalists again; they would produce what the people demanded as known through market forces rather than produce what the Government's central economic planners demanded to make their own vision of how things should be come true. If people controlled the means of production for example, and the public demanded cheaper cars which require a greater supply of steel, then the producers would satisfy that demand by producing and selling that steel for that purpose... however if the Government wants to build a giant array of antennas to try to contact aliens with as part of their grand Socialist master plan, then they'd need to confiscate that steel somehow, and just straight owning the production would save them a lot of trouble. The people simply cannot be free to make their own economic decisions if the State is to have its way.

You don't have to be Marxist, read about libertarian socialism, as well read this: http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1847/11/prin-com.htm In socialism the workers are the state, it's dictatorship of the proletariat, compared to capitalism, dictatorship of the bourgeoisie, where the government is composed of and controlled by those with money.
