Didn't the Germans make the first automobile, why did Obama say it was America?

  • Wasn't the first manufactured car the carl Benz in Germany? And didn't Europeans invited the internal combustion engine? So why did Obama say, "And I believe the nation that invented the automobile cannot walk away from it." Did he mean Germany?

    History, it seems, depends on who is writing it. God bless Germany and America. The automobile seems to be a combination of many peoples/nations ideas. Ford was the first to mass produce it. Benz perfected it,and the company continues too perfect it, after originally building the first "automobile." We should put more thought, and stock, into what Germany has been doing since WW2.Austria's Glocks are freaking sweet.

Henry Ford invented the method of the assembly line which produced cheap automobiles for the working class. All other manufacturers followed his lead. Before that, cars were made by hand and expensive, purchased only by the rich and famous. Yes, Obama made another mistake, but we once had the best and most prolific car manufacturing in the world.
