Why does my thumb go numb/tingle?

I was cutting something out for a short time when it went numb for a few days. Now 2 weeks on when i put pressure on it either cutting or lifting laptop up it tingles. Does anyone know whats wrong?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by pressure on a nerve (median nerve ) in the wrist. The symptoms include tingling, numbness, weakness, or pain of the fingers and hand. My advice... go to the doctor before it gets worse.
