  • Answer:

See your health care provider as soon as possible (primary care doctor for referral to a head trauma clinic), this may be an emergency problem. Vasomotor rhinitis could be the problem and increased internal pressure due to head injury or concussion. This common condition occurs when blood vessels in the nose overreact to certain environmental or emotional stimuli by swelling up and triggering excess mucus production. Common culprits include changes in air temperature and humidity, strong odors, spicy food, and even strong feeling like anger. If you can identify the triggers, such as certain medications and alcohol beverages, you may be able to neutralize or avoid them. Exercising and keeping a hostility diary, for example, may curb anger. Although drugs cannot completely relieve symptoms, your doctor may prescribe an oral decongestant, an antihistamine, or a steroid nasal spray that can provide limited relief. Avoid over-the-counter decongestant nasal sprays, such as Afrin or Otrivin, which can actually make matters worse. I hope this helps you. And good luck.
