How do you treat a sore toe due to an ingrown nail?

Should I treat or leave my ingrown toe nail alone?

• What are the long term effects if I don't treat my ingrown toe nail. It's on my big toe. And I admit I have picked at it and probably made it worse, if anything. I feel like I clipped off the ingrown but I think I probably just clipped off a part of it. It's pretty bad too. My big toe really hurts whenever I accidentally hit or bump it on something. And the skin around the top corner of where the ingrown is, is very hard and hurts alot when I push on it. I just tried to pick it out and it hurts like hell. I know I shouldn't be messing with it but it was irritating me because I guess it was growing since I hadn't picked at it in awhile. Should I treat it and get it removed? Or just leave it alone? I really wanna leave it alone.

  The long term effects are the toe will get worse, I would go and see a Podiatrist and see what he says, and don,t pick at your nails, if you look after your toe nails and cut them the right way your should not have this problem ever.
