What was this kind of pain?

What kind of gallbladder pain management is there?

  • Let me start by saying, my Dr is an idiot. I've been getting gallbladder attacks off and on for the last 2 months or so. She recognizes how painful they are (saying that she has had kidney stones and they aren't even as painful as trying to pass gallstones). They have all been at night, and about 70% of the time are brought on by bad eating. So, to an extent, they are controllable, but I still get some attacks after having eaten healthy all day. All of my attacks come at night. The first one was so bad, I had no idea what was happening, so I went to emerg. They sent me home because by the time they got to me, it was hours and hours after the pain started, and the attack was over. I later had an ultrasound that confirmed gallstones. I had another attack a few weeks later, and it was so bad that my mom gave me one oxycodone that was left over from my dads recent hip surgery, The pain was gone with in 20 minutes, and I slept soundly. I didn't get high, so that means the pain meds did exactly what they were supposed to, and nothing more (a testament to how strong the pain is. If the pain was mild, I would have gotten high). The next time I saw my Dr., She prescribed me T3s and buscopan (she said this drugs helps relax the gallbladder). Since I wasn't looking to get high, I was happy with this and filled the script. When my next attack came, I took the recommended dose, and cried in pain for over an hour. It was so bad, I doubled up, and not even that did anything. I waited a minimum of 40minutes between each dose, since I was fearful of abusing the drugs. I ended up taking 4 times the recommended dose, and it didn't even take the edge off... T3s are clearly childs play. I went back to the Dr with my mom and explained how I was in such sever pain that I needed something more than Tylenol. I told her I didn't care what it was, but that I needed something stronger. I explained how my mom had given me oxy and it worked exactly as intended. She freaked out and gave me a rant about how oxy was way too strong, and she was proud to have never prescribed it in her career. I'm sorry, I know that some people abuse them or get addicted, but narcotics were invented and are legal FOR A REASON... They are intended for extreme pain, which is what gallstones are. Not prescribing them to someone who legitimately needs them is like abuse by neglect. And she's known me for over 15 years, and this is the first time I've asked for pain killers. Anyways... My mom agreed with me and gave me the whole bottle of oxys. I've had them on me now for over two months, and I only take them when I'm in severe pain. If I were looking to get high, the bottle would be gone by now. I'm very afraid of when the bottle runs out. My Dr. is eager to take my gallbladder out, but I'd prefer to pass the stones, since 15% of people who have their gallbladders removed have chronic diarrhea for the rest of their lives. Plus, many people still have pain, and there are a handful of complications. My Dr said she would NEVER prescribe anything stronger than T3s, and if I was still in pain to go to emergency. That's just not realistic for me, I work at a job where I need to be on the ball and not tired, and emerg in Canada takes FOREVER to get through. So I'm very afraid of when my bottle of oxys run out. Has anyone in Canada been prescribed anything stronger than T3s, or is this pretty common? It's starting to look like my only options will either be taking my gallbladder out, or buying oxys illegally. So after a very lengthy description... What is a typical prescription for this pain? Has anyone gotten something stronger than T3s? What should I doooo? Thanks.

  • Answer:

you should have your gallbladder taken out right away, if you have gallbladder disease and do not have it taken out things will only get worse. There are things you can take/eat that sometimes help with the pain but the worse the gallbladder gets the worse pain you will be in if not worse. like i said you should have it removed. Even if you do pass the stones about 9 times out of 10 they will form again
