What Does The Appendix Do?

Appendix? What could cause the pain?

• What else makes the appendix hurt/swollen? To make a really long story short, I was in and out the ER all this weekend with pain in my lower right abdomen/naval area. My second visit to the ER was a callback because a doctor taking a second look at my appendix said that it looked enlarged. I was having extremely bad pain and it hurt worse after I ate something or laid down. After consultation, the surgeon decided he did not want to remove my appendix because he didn't think that I had appendicitis because my only symptom was severe pain. So I asked him what else could be causing my pain and he didn't have an answer, just something along on the lines of "woman pains"--which is crap because I am not dumb and I know when I am having "woman pains" Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing my pain? Additional Details They did find an ovarian cyst, but it was on my left said so they said that that is not the cause of my pain, especially because of the severity of my pain.
