Why is my ear is throbbing?

Ear infection causes throbbing pain on the right side of my head?

• Last Friday, my ear starting hurting/throbbing a bit. I more or less ignored it even though it was really annoying. Now the right side of my head doesn't really hurt as much as it feels just sore and I guess tender? I do, however, getting a throbbing pain in my right ear that comes and goes randomly but hurts like a mofo and causes me to scream expletives in my head until it subsides. This is an ear infection, right? Should I see a doctor? I'm in college and the health services/medical clinic here is a bit of a hassle so I'd rather not if I have to.
