Why do I have a lump feeling in my throat all of the time?
-
For a long time I have had a "lump sensation" in my throat - in the bottom. I have always felt it on/off when swallowing saliva. It has never interferred with breathing or swallowing food. Lately though, I have the lump sensation but I also feel that it stops breath from going down my throat - I get this feeling like the breath isnt going down properly, almost like there is a thin layer of something across my throat. It started with getting this feeling just when I breathed through my nose so would breathe through my mouth but now it also happens when I breath through my mouth. I can put up with the "lump sensation" as I have had it for so long that that no longer frightens me - but its the breathing sensation that really bothers me. With regards to just the lump feeling, I have seen endless doctors in the past who have said its either in my head or its gerd. I have taken lots of different medication for gerd and nothing works. I also have a lot of mucus in my throat, it seems to drip down the back from my nose (which is blocked on/off through the day). Sometimes I get a different lump feeling in my throat and my body is forced to cough up a hard piece of green stuff (vile). I have noticed after this that my throat feels "clearer" and breathing is easier. This I have mentioned to docs before, they have given me antibiotics for it but it still happens. yesterday I went to see my GP, explained everything (again), she checked my throat and ears and said there was no sign of infection or irritation etc. She did give me antibiotics (again) because I had said about the "green stuff" - she said they were "just in case I had an infection in my sinuses". This again I have heard before!!!! (Just for ref; I go through stages with the dreaded green stuff. I can go for weeks with out coughing any up, then I can cough up 3/4 times a week). Does anyone else suffer like this and do you have any suggestions as to what it could be or what I could do?

Answer:
You have tight neck muscles causing those things. When your neck muscles are tight they also tighten up everything inside your throat as well making the muscle that is used for swallowing tight to have that lump there, it can't move as it should. When you have tight neck muscles they also restrict everything going in and out of your head. When the wastes back up because they aren't getting out fast enough they end up filling up your sinuses to cause the problems there. To get rid of these problems you have to free up the muscles in your neck and here's how to do that: Neck Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your neck. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. When your fingers and thumb touch, about two minutes, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds. For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
