Tender and pain beneath right ribcage?
-
Since October last year, I've had pain that started off in my lower right abdomen. For several days I woke up in the night with intense stabbing pain in my lower right abdomen that was also around my ribcage area. The attacks started off here and there every few weeks, which drifted into the occasional every few months. Now they've come back more frequent in the past few weeks. Now these past few weeks, with any ''attack'' I have, I end up with sharp stabbing pains around my right ribcage, and just under, which then leads to pain in my lower right side and my back. I ended up having an ''attack'' last night, where I had the usual pain around my right ribcage, however, I had sharp pains travelling upwards towards my shoulder, and lower right back pain. After it settled I tried several times touching my upper abdomen, just beneath my right ribcage, and instead got tenderness and a hefty sharp stabbing pain, travel up my back to my shoulder. I gave up after a few tries, because it hurt quite a lot. Just then I tried again, instead holding 2 finger in the centre of my upper abdomen, cm's away from my right ribcage. I took breaths in and found that again, I ended up with tenderness and a stabbing pain that soon had me taking my hand off quickly and rolling about. I'm really considering gallstones. My attacks have always been at night, with the rare 1 or 2 in the day. The other week I had an attack 30 odd minutes after eating. I ended up not being able to sit upstraighth with intense right ribcage pain, and worsening pain when breathing in/out, and not to mention, the pain had me struggling to breathe. I usually end up either sweating or shivering with these ''attacks'', and definitely nausea. Even when touching the area I had a lurking sickness feeling. It's only tender around midway under my right ribcage, and even now, I can feel a dull sharp pain there. Only thing I can think of is gallstones? Is that a likely cause? I am going to see a gastroenterologist in 9 days, so I will bring this up. Thank you. And sorry it's so long!

You describe classic gallbladder symptoms. It may be gallstones or it may be just a bad gallbladder. An ultrasound may give you an answer.
Gall stones in your lower stomach? It sounds like pinched nerves to me. They often send pains around the body on the nerves to be pains in the rib, chest or heart areas. When you breath the spine moves to pinch them more. When you touched the area you were still touching the nerve that carried the pain to feel what you did, for it added pressure to the cause it to tighten up the muscles around it which sent the pains up your back. It seems you actually have two of them, one in the lower area and one in the rib area. The lower ones are also sending the pain around your body on the nerves to be in the area you feel it. When the nerves get pinched they tighten up the muscles around them to keep them where they can get pinched again and again and each time they do get pinched the muscles can get tighter which can bring the nerve into being in pain the whole time. To get rid of these pains you have to free up your back muscles to release the nerves and here's how to free them up: Back: (do while sitting) Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side. For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
