Carrying heavy luggage + exercise?

  • I need to carry a lot of heavy luggage around with me daily for uni.. this is for around 10 hours (not continuously, i stop for class but then will need to carry it all to next class as there's no lockers). I need the books to do the class work - and i really need to pass these 2 units. So have to take them with me.. i am a bit worried about my back and the damage this may cause it. The books alone weigh 5kgs!! At the moment i have a side bag and i try an even out the weight with 2 bags but its still a lot of weight. i have considered a suite case/ bag with wheels but i think its a bit gay.. (no offense) AND i still have the issue with stairs.. so i was wondering was there some exercises i could do that would improve my back strength therefore prevent damaging my back buy carrying the books around? if so what exercises can i do? any other ideas on how i can prevent back problems and take my books around would also be great! Thank in advance.

    The age, place & type of pain,weight, routines, etc. are not known. So a general cause/cure for back ache is given: 1.Over weight, carrying heavy loads continously, using a heavy pillow while sleeping, sudden jerks, slips, falls, etc.. can result in back pain. As our ancestors were having horizontal spine, & only for homosapians it became vertical, almost 99 % get this at one time or other, & once or more. It can be hereditary, or congenital too. 2. Avoiding heavy weight lifting is the best, but to live, we have to carry some weight, so try these: Watch out when you walk with the luggage, also while bending to pick up or download it - bend the knees, rather than the back.Riding 2-wheeler vehicles, esp on uneven roads, aggravates pain/ pain potentials ! Take healthy not so spicy non oily food,[ but with with enough Ca , minerals] so that you are never obese, but your bone/muscles are taken care of Avoid heavy pillows. A strict time table for eating, sleeping advisable There are several exercises that help strengthening back in general, & lower back in particular. A good yoga teacher, an orthopedic surgeon will give you the schedule & times, nos, etc ! Swimming, cycling in plane roads also strengthens back muscles. Applying some oil/ointment/gel also give relief; so also a hot water sponging Some pain killers can be used in emergency, but not frequently ! Avoid tensions- from exams to workload, several known/unknown sources exist for tensions ! There are some who recommend surgery too ! But before agreeing for that, make sure that ALL OTHER VISTAS- wt reduction, medication, exercises, punctual living, etc.. fail miserably . All the best- try all the harmless remedies- mostly we can succeed I have been managing lower backache since 50 years- w/o medication/surgery !
