Why does the tip of my thumb hurt?

Hurt my thumb during weightlifting?

  • Today during weightlifting, we were maxing our power cleans and after I caught the weight I was coming up and the weight kind of tilted to the right and I dropped it. But while I dropped it, my right thumb and wrist got caught under the bar and I heard some kind of cracking sound. My wrist hurt for a little while but the pain went away. However, my thumb continues to hurt. I can move it alright, it's a little swollen but it's really limp. Like at the joint it feels really weak. I'm wondering if I dislocated it, sprained it, if i should get it checked out, or if it's just something minor. Thank you!

  • Answer:

You probably sprained it a little, like its jammed. I did that to my thumb a while back, it turned purple D: hurt for like a week then the bruising went away and it got better. I think its something minor, but if u heard cracking, u might want to get it checked out. Ice it and take ibuprofen to decrease the swelling. Hope u feel better

It appears minor. Is the thumb still slightly warm to touch ? If it is so, please apply Ice Cubes immediately. In case there is swelling but no local heat , in that case please dip your thumb into a mug full of hot water with salt added to it. Try that 3-4 times daily. You will be well soon. If the pain lasts for over 48 hours, please see an Orthopedic.

First off, go get it checked. Also, if you open your hand flat and extend your fingers and thumb apart, at base of your thumb you will sp see a little dent in the shape of a V third is nicknamed your snuff box. Gently but firmly press a finger from your other hand, just the tip of your finger, into that little triangular box in the center until you hit solid. If it causes you excruciating pain keep hand in same position and press on the bone directly underneath the above mentioned area, if excruciating pain again, make the doctor specifically check your Nivicular(spelling might be off, been a long time) as this is a some what common break but often mis diagnosed as a sprain or the like. But it could be as simple as a sprain. But see a doctor and find out to prevent any serious complications.
