What are some ways to get rid of back pain and neck pain?
-
I was diagnosed with scoliosis a little over a year ago and nothing the doctor told me to do has worked to get rid of the pain. I also have problems in my neck due to a small space where the skull and the spine meet. (there is supposed to be a bigger space between the skull and spine) Anyways, because of my neck problems, it not only causes me constant pain but also gives me migraines.Sometimes the migraines can last days, without stopping. It is so annoying. Does anyone have any suggestions to get rid of either one of these problems. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and by the way, I don't want any suggestions of medication. I really would rather try everything possible first, before I go to the doctors and get prescribed medicine. Thanks again.

aww Cindy i'm so sorry you are suffering. What you are going through is much like my situation. I tried many and many things to avoid meds. *Heating Pad- Placing on sore areas can help relax muscles. *Vitamin D- Lack of vitamin d can cause pain *Excercise and Posture- Not standing up straight, slouches, or even sitting with your legs crossed can irritate the lower back. *Sleeping Positions- Review your sleeping position, sleeping on your tummy can irritate the neck and also lower back. * Massage- Getting massages to relax the body and relieve stress can help. (my fav) * Acupuncture- I was told by a specialist this helps a lot of people - I have been very unsuccessful with getting rid of my pain. I drive around in my benz with the heated seats on high and a/c on blast. If you find something that helps please share. [email protected]

If your pain has been that intense, lasting for days you should really go and see your doctor.
You could go to physical therapy. It helps a lot. You could also swim.
Back and neck pains do come from tight muscles in those areas and once you release the muscles the pains should be gone. When you have curvature of the spine you have to have tight muscles in your back to be pulling it that way, for it won't get that way without that pull so that is from tight muscles as well. Once you release the muscles that pain should be better as well. Here is how to release your back and neck muscles: Neck Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your head. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. After 45 seconds, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds. With your neck in the lowered position, replace your thumbs in under the ears and your fingers behind your head but right next to your skull this time. Press your fingers and thumbs together again and hold. Relax your body while waiting. When the muscles have all released, slowly lift your head until it’s level again, release the pressure but hold your head like that for another 30 seconds. Back: (do from a sitting position) Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side. for best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
Ya doctors don't know crap about muscle/bone/spine injuries or problems, so don't waste your time seeing them. Physical therapy is your best bet. The better conditioned your muscles are to adapt to your abnormal spine curvature, the better you will feel. Check scoliosis.org. I have a couple rare conditions, and I always research the hell out of them and try to come up with the best solution based on how I feel, and what works for me. Everyone is different. Last bit of advice: try and help yourself holistically (natural remedies including physical therapy, naturopathy, psychology etc) versus seeing the doctor or resorting to drugs/surgery (like you said). Good luck!
