What does it feel like to break out?

What does it feel like to break a bone?

  • i'm writing a story and i would like detail. what does it feel like in every instance of the bone being broken- do you feel it immediately? what was the first feeling like? how did it feel in the first few minutes? how else did you feel besides the pain in the bone (sick, tremory, etc)? best answer goes to best detail and information. i wouldn't know because i've never broken anything. it's especially helpful if you've broken tibia/fibula or humorous

  • Answer:

I've broken several different bones with some being incredibly painful and others being barely noticeable. Breaking my humerus was barely painful. If I hadn't had x-rays I would not have known it was broken. Several years ago I had a surgical procedure with entailed breaking my tibia down the middle (long way). Let's just say that was some of the worst pain I've ever experienced! I knew to the second when my next dose of pain meds was coming because I'd do anything to avoid that pain! Tears come to my eyes just recalling that pain. And, until you've broken a leg you can hardly know how much you depend on having 2 working legs! I've broken my hand, radius, toes, nose........ none of these compare with the tibia. I broke my back when I was pretty young and, although the actual back break pain settled, 37 years later I am still experiencing the complications due to fracturing my spine. The initial break isn't always the worst part, it's the ongoing healing or lack thereof which can be worse.

When you break a bone your body goes into immediate shock and you, for a second, are completely lifeless. You don't feel the pain right at first and even when you do, it surprisingly is not as painful as it seems. Mostly people just cry because when their brain processes what happens, they are so stunned they cry. I broke my finger not too long ago and when it happened i was almost afraid to look at my hand because i instantly knew something wasn't right. I was with my friend McKenzie and she had no clue what happened, i just got in the car immediately and drove myself to the hospital. I didn't cry within the first hour, but as the pain became most excruciating, i started to tear up in the emergency room. All in all, breaking bones can and cannot be what it seems. I hope this was helpful!

At first there is a pain (similar to a small contained explosion) but it stops pretty quickly once adrenaline kicks in and you go into shock. Then you get the shakes and start sweating a lot, by this point the adrenaline has taken affect and you all jumpy and twitchy. Once the ambulance arrives and gives you some medication the pain dies down to a small bubble of pain, even through all this movement feels like a stabbing pain straight to your bone marrow. After this while the bone is setting it is just a constant ache with slight spikes of pain during movement. hope this helps.
