What should I do after my wisdom teeth were taken out?

What's the best way to get your wisdom teeth taken out? ?

  • I have to get my wisdom teeth taken out on February 7th, and I have two options to get them taken out: going under with a sedative, or having my mouth numbed while they take it out. I don't really want to go under - just personal preference - but if it will really hurt, I guess I wouldn't mind going under. My question is: with your mouth and body numbed extremely, will there still be a lot of pain, that it's just not worth it to stay awake? By the way, I have to get three wisdom teeth taken out. Thank you.

  • Answer:

Don't get them removed. Removing wisdom teeth before there is a problem is a scam for dentists to make more profit. Think about it, the only reason you get them removed is so that you can avoid having to get them removed in the future. If they get infected in the future and you have to get them removed it isn't any worse than getting them removed now. But it is unlikely for wisdom teeth to cause a problem, even if they are impounded, so why go through the trouble of a surgery if you can just address the problem as it comes? You put yourself through more pain and wasted money by getting them removed earlier than you would even if you ended up having a problem with one of them.

I haven't had mine personally taken out. but my boyfriend has. and i had to go with him and take care of him and everything, but anyways, they put him under the sedative, and he woke up in the middle of it. but after they put him back to sleep, everything went just fine. he was high off of hydros for a few days and his cheeks were puffy and swollen for about a week. but then he was just fine. he only had real pain for about a day, maybe 2. so, yeah if your worried about the pain you should deffinantly go under the sedative. theres a lot less of it. he was up and moving around the day after..

For an uncomplicated wisdom tooth extraction you don't really need to go under. If your dentist thinks that a local anesthetic (numbing) will do, I'd go with that. I had my right wisdom teeth pulled on one appointment and my left ones pulled on another appointment a few weeks later. Both times I was in and out of the office in less than 20 minutes. The first time I was prescribed codeine for the pain - that was definitely overkill. The next time, I just took a couple of Tylenol when the novocaine started to wear off and that was it. During the procedure, I couldn't even feel the teeth coming out.

That would be a question for your dentist. He?she can tell you if they're impacted or not or what they would recommend. I was lucky in that only 1 of mine had to be removed and the dentist did it so fast. I also don't remember having any pain at all from it. They really do all they can to take care of the pain. Do you have to have all 3 taken out at once?

When I had mine removed, they gave injections into the gums that numbed everything. The injections, at least the first couple, were the worst part of it. Once the numbness took over, it didn't hurt until the drugs wore off.
