I have severe Neck Pain & It's a Pitch Nerve?

Why does my neck hurt a lot? The pain radiates down my arms as well,is this a pinched nerve or herniated disc?

  • Every now and then (about every 1-2 months) my neck hurts really bad for about a couple of weeks. When I rub around the area above my collar bone on the sides, it feels like tickling a funny and feels like a nerve is moving inside or something. When I put my head, I feel the pain on the sides of my neck and all around under the shoulder and the shoulder. If I tilt my head one way quickly or stretch out my arms, the pain radiates down my arm and it's like a tingling sensation. I read that this could be like a herniated disc but I don't even know and the doctor's have not done anything about it after taking the X-ray. Any suggestions? Anybody heard of this problem before?

    herniated disc and nerve impingement are the same, usually you have tingling in ring/pinky fingers. sounds like muscle tension, need a new pillow, muscle sports creams. heat or massage or you clench/grind your teeth or carry your stress there.

The only way you'll really know is an MRI. A piched nerve can result due to a herniation or bulge but also a piched nerve can be due to a spinal misalignment, inflammation and muscle strain. The typical scenario is meds/ conservative therapy and xray. If the meds your doc gives doesn't help and you try PT, Chiropractic or some other therapy with no results, see your doctor again and he may be able to order an MRI. If it is a disc I would recommend chiropractic or spinal decompression.

You need to have an MRI, an xray doesn't usually show bulging disks, sounds like you have one that is protruding somewhat and pressing against a nerve, Mercee.
