What is sharp burning pain on the back of the head?

Burning pain in head? what could it be?

  • I've been back and forth with doctors and ER's since June dealing with this new set of headaches I'm experiencing. Some weeks I'm fine, others I'm not. Basically 99% of the "pain" I'm having is in the back of my head, either at the base of my skull or kind of up towards the middle of my head. It feels like heavy pressure, not so much "pain." Had a CT done in June and they found nothing, no tumors, anuerisums (sp), everything was normal, blood tests were all normal. They are blaming it on stress, although I don't feel stressed at this point in my life. So I've been trying different medications to see what is working. The migraine stuff didn't work. Last time when I was at the ER they gave me Ativan, which I recently started taking (they gave me .5 but I break them in 1/2 and take 1/2 before bed) and most of the time I wake up feeling alot better. Now as of right now, my head is killing me. I've got this weird burning sensation now too. And I'm panicking a little. So I took the whole Ativan and I took a Benadryl. I'm trying to lay down but I'm freaked out. The Dr's all think this is tension from my neck. Also, most of the time when I'm having the pressure feeling, I get dizzy too. Any ideas, suggestions to ease this? Thanks

  • Answer:

I think that you should consider going to a major hospital that is attached to a university. They have doctors that research at these institutions, and might be able to get some further answers.
