Do you have to take a placement test at the beginning of college?

I am starting community college i was told to take a placement test?

• what happen if i fail this test will i be able to take credit towards my major ? what is the procedure am new to this to be specific its a cat cuny assesement test for colleges in newyork.

  you can't fail your placement test, it is there to tell you what math or english you need to start at. If you are not very good at math and perform poorly, then you will probably have to take a lower math before you can take the normal math 101 or whatever. Same goes for English. I also had to take one for a language if you plan on continuing with a second language. That will tell you if you should be in (whatever language) 1, 2, or 3. Don't worry, it's nothing major! I thought it was similar to other standardized tests I've taken, like the SATs.
