What are some possibilities if I score high on the SAT?
-
I am 24yr old and graduated in 2005 at about 713 out of a roughly 800+ graduating class. I attended community college for two years and dropped or failed quite a few classes, mostly dropped. I have recently discovered, (or was diagnosed) that I have ADHD and a pretty strong case of it. After taking 2yrs off from school and getting my priorities straight, I have returned to school pursuing a degree in chemical engineering, and have done very well earning a 4.0 for 2 semesters now. Learning how to manage my ADHD has helped tremendously and has helped me realize my potential. My parents told me recently that when I was younger my IQ was tested and was very high. I have always been able to learn quickly, which also contributed to becoming bored with the subject if things didn't move fast enough. I never took the SAT but feel like I owe it to myself to see where I stand. SO my question is, given my background, what are some possibilities if I score extremely high on the SAT? Somewhere around 2300. I feel I am very capable of a score that high. I have always done very well on test. For example, a few years ago I tested for the U.S. Border Patrol, which is said to be one of the more difficult law enforcement exams, and scored a 98% without studying at all. I have multiple family members who either tested or were in the B.P. and they all said that it was a very high score. Higher then most people they knew. If anyone has any insight into this I would greatly appreciate any input.

Answer:
If you are talking on what a high SAT score can do for you regarding college -- maybe a scholarship or two. There are many student who score highly on the SAT. Admissions wants to see more than a perfect score, they look at so many other factors. For high school students, they want to see extracurricular involvement, community service, leadership roles, and more. For an adult thinking about returning back to school, it's a nice way to show your seriousness about pursuing an education and, again, it could net you a scholarship or two. But, it isn't normally a requirement for an adult student. They will most likely want to know what you've been doing with your time. Have you been employed? What have you done with your free time?
