Please grade my practice SAT essay!?

  • Topic:Aim for success, not perfection. Never give up your right to be wrong, because then you will lose the ability to learn new things and move forward with your life.</i> --Dr. David M. Burns Do people focus so much on doing things right that they fail to learn from their mistakes? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experiences or observations. Perfectionists, though successful, always work much harder then they are required to. In my life, I came across many perfectionists and, well, I was one too. Perfectionism, in my opinion, can never stick with a person for their entire life time. Sooner or later, perfectionists realize it was and never is worth the trouble. Perfectionism can lead to stress, and time mismanagement. Early in my academic career, I had to build a prototype of a certain model. Being who I was, I wanted to achieve the best grade I could possibly earn. I began my project by finding research, paint, and blocks of wood. I was also unaware of the fact that our teacher was looking for completion rather then correction. The requirements for the prototype were available at any hardware store, but I insisted to use only the most precise products. With the help of craftsmen, I had finally obtained the precise shapes and sizes required for the prototype. Because of my constant need for preciseness, I had lost about four days only on the parts. The project was due the next day. I was tired and had lost a significant amount of time because of a couple of simple wooden blocks. It was 9th grade, and I was assigned to work with another student. By now I had understood that perfectionism was not for me and I had luckily moved on. My partner, on the other hand, was a perfectionist. She made my phase of “perfectionism” seem worthless. We both were assigned to collect data from the crowd at a certain mall on a certain day. She was the smartest in the class and still is in the top ten students of my school. We were aware of certain software’s that would help us manage the data, do our calculations and give us perfect outputs. I found out that she had an incident with her computer which gave her a low grade on one of her assignments. I spent about three hours arguing with her on why we should be using the computer. Because of our quarrel, the teacher decided to split us up and turn in our projects individually. Since she had all our data, I had to hand out surveys, and plug in digits onto the computer. I had to repeat everything just because I, apparently, did not learn from her mistakes. I agree with Dr. David M. Burns, perfection can lead to stress and time mismanagement. It hurts yourself and others around you. Things, such as the wooden blocks, should be prioritized by the order of importance. A person should also realize that things from the past do not repeat themselves, and that they should learn from their mistakes.

I find it amazing that two people can write the exact same essay. My answer was completely honest on the last one. Just because it wasn't what you were hoping for, does not mean you should disregard it. I gave you constructive criticism, and if you just search until you find an answer you like, you won't get any better.
