What is the best and proper way to study for an AP Exam?

  • I'm in the IB program (International Baccalaureate) and I took AP World History as a freshman. Around 60% of my class got a 1 on the ap exam including me. This year I am taking AP Modern European History. What are some good tips and ways of studying so that I will, for sure, pass the exam with at least a 3. I and shooting for a 4 though.

  • Answer:

Ask your teacher if he/she can get old AP tests for you and your classmates to practice on. If you take practice tests, you'll be superbly prepared for the real exam. They change the questions every year, so an old test would have the same format as the exam you'll take but different questions--and since the questions are different, it isn't cheating. I took two AP classes in high school, and the one where I passed the exam was the one where the teacher assigned practice tests as homework for weeks before the exam. That made all the difference. If your teacher doesn't assign practice tests, you can use them on your own if you can get them.

In my opinion the best thing to do is study throughout the year. For my finals, including AP tests, I don't have to spend a lot of time studying at the end because I've paid attention during the year. Then before the test I just spend an hour or two reviewing and I do fine.
