Is 1160 a good, fair, or bad SAT score?

Which SAT score do I choose?

  • I'm applying for colleges now and I just got my last SAT scores back. On my first SAT I did very, very well in Critical Reading, above-average in Writing, and poorly in Math. After my second attempt, I dropped 110 points in Critical Reading, but still did well, did 10 points better in Writing, and got my Math up 50 points to make it a decent/above-average score. Overall, my first go was 50 points higher in total, with a fantastic Critical Reading score and a bad Math score, while my second one was more well-rounded, showing a better Math score but sacrificing my Reading score. I'm hoping to major in Computer Science which, I would think, requires a decent comprehension of Math. Should I send colleges my SAT score that has a higher overall score, excellent Critical Reading, and poor Math, or should I send the one that is 50 points lower than the first and has a better Math score? Do you always just want to send the one that has the higher total score?

  • Answer:

You'll want to send both scores, and on the part of the application that asks for your scores on each section, report the highest score, regardless of which test it came from.
