Which is better, an MCSE or an MCSA?

It's the MCSA/MCSE certification a better option to embark on than the CCNA?

  • I currently have the CompTIA A+, Network+ certifications and I am about to take the Security+ certification exam. I am looking forward to take either the MCSA/MCSE or CCNA/CCNP path next. Can anyone please tell me which path is more demanding in the employment world. I am considering looking for work anywhere in the world, but most likely in the U.S, although I am currently in the U.K.

  • Answer:

Honestly? Your background and portfolio speaks louder than your certifications. If you just have certs, no good employer will look at you. If you and some friends start up some sort of registered business and you were 'network admin' with 14 terminals, etc., then they'll start to look at you. MCSA/MCSE, over CCNA? It's good to show CLI in your abilities and when I took the CCNA tract, CLI was a big part of it (that might have changed by now). Over all, knowledge is power. Go for the MCSA/MCSE, then CCNA. Keep finding ways to put more and more education under your belt and put some programming in there, too. Back it up with verifiable 'real-world-experience' and the American market will look at you much more than a grad with a list of certifications. T
