Photo taking?

My DSLR keeps taking a photo in the wrong place compared to when i look through the viewfinder?

  • If I am taking a photo of a square object for example and I have it lined up perfect, when I take the photo and view it it will be offcentre and it will have taken it where I didn't want to, could this be a problem with the lens? thanks

  • Answer:

Before you look into changing the lens,if you put your camera on to a tripod and release the shutter with a cable release make sure that your subject is in focus...your setup is correct ..your cable release is screwed into your camera shutter release.....final look to insure you are how you want your image to appear....press your cable release,if it is good.....then you are the problem ,movement on release,....if it's no better replace the lens..

Could you post a sample picture? E.g. by uploading it to tinypic.com and adding the link to your question? Methinks the lens can be completely ruled out as a cause - any defect in it would affect the viewfinder image in the same way as the image on the sensor. Probably the mirror is misaligned and you will need to take it to a camera repair shop to have this fixed. Do not try to fix it yourself, that will likely only make things worse. One needs special tools to adjust the mirror.

Simple answer: Your eye isn't lined up properly in the viewfinder. Happened to me a lot at first. Just look for the dots or even displays INSIDE the viewfinder, and use them to make sure your eye is lined up so the entire visible image in the viewfinder is lined up right. If that fixes it, there ya go!
