Online traffic school, first conviction?

  • i was recently in court for my first traffic ofense ever. it was for not stopping at a stop sign. i didnt even get the option of traffic school. 26, first offense & no option? i have recently found that my friend, who has multiple offenses & convictions, had the option. she got traffic school online & now, doesnt have her latest offense on her record. yet, i have a conviction on my record! i am scheduled to send my first payment in next week. what im wondering, is there any way i change my plea to not guilty? if not, is there any way i can go back & receive traffic school instead of the conviction?

    Not all states or counties allow people to take a traffic school class. Your best bet is to call the courts and ask them if you may take a class. The courts website will also state if people are allowed to take a class for that court office.

Yes actually there is something you can do. Though I believe on your original citation it should say something about traffic school. Look there. Anyway, unless you are in a huge major city most traffic courts are open docket. That means you can go back to court and talk to the judge about changing your plea. I suggest you take the tact that you can not afford the payments and that you really need to do the traffic school thing. I wouldn't do anything "Official" as anything you do like that is going to cost you way more then the ticket. Clue- Disobeying a traffic device, though just running a stop sign seems petty, is considered to be a severe violation, because even though an accident did not occur that time, it is one of those things that can cause one immediately. As a severe violation it can up your insurance.
