What is the Australian government doing about alcohol addiction?

If you can prove alcohol and cigs are the gateway drugs for marijuana does this make our government liars?

  • If factual evidence can support the notion that alcohol and cigs are the gateway drugs to marijuana does this make our government huge liars? Um were pretty much at the point where we can prove with factual studies that Alcohol and cigs are tried first by the majority of children. If the act of getting buzzed or light headed via a cig or alcohol then the subsequent use of marijuana after wards would be a direct gateway to the previous use and enjoyment of cigs. In my opinion in depth studies would affirm my beliefs but our government would never allow these studies to have any weight because no one person with political power is going to stand up against this because of the potential loss of status and or popularity.

    I don't know anyone who would say that they smoked a joint before they smoked a cigarette or had a beer... Cigs and alcohol are more of a gateway drug, because kids have more access to them because of their parents. Also, most people when they smoke marijuana for the first time, do not get high.... your body has to "learn" how to react to it. Some simply feel nausia or dizziness from toking too hard the first time, and they're not used to smoke in general. Which is why...you get a lot of people who say " I tried it once, and it didn't do anything for me...so I decided it wasn't for me." Those people tend to prefer the more guaranteed buzz of alcohol.

OK, so the government are huge liars, what else is new? You can't outlaw cigs or alcohol, people wouldn't follow it, the prohibition era is proof. Things got worse when alcohol was made illegal. BTW: one study isn't proof, but rather a sample. ALSO: alcohol and cigs are huge money makers for the government. The government never takes it upon itself to destroy sources of revenue, at least not a smart government.

Actually, what we can prove is that people who use weed used booze and tobacco first. But since booze and smokes are common in modern day society it doesn't prove anything. Take a look at what you're saying. You're linking two things together when there is no actual link. It's like saying that since most homosexuals masturbated as teenagers that masturbation must make you gay, when in fact most teenagers have masturbated at least a couple of times, regardless of their sexuality as adults.

cigs and alcohol are NOT a gateway to marijuana ... just as ... marijuana is NOT a gateway to heroin !!! marijuana should be legalized, and taxed to help with out national deficit.
