What's it like to be a security guard?

What certifications are required to work as a Las Vegas Casino security officer?

  • What certifications are required to work as a Las Vegas Casino security officer? So I am looking into a required certifications. Whats confusing me is there is the gaming card, sheriff's card, guard card, and TAM card. So I figured out that the Gaming card and Sheriff's card (defunct) are the same and you get them through the Nevada Gaming Commission online. Second the TAM card you can also get online. So that leaves me with the guard card or security registration. This is for unarmed. Is there a difference between regular security and casino security? I think I need to get a security license from the Nevada Private Investigators Board. Is this correct. Can someone please clarify this for me? Thanks

  • Answer:

Casinos are private businesses and are not required to hire licensed security officers, they can hire any one they want to so long as they are not in the "Black Book". Casinos are known to hire card counters and other cheats. Who better to catch cheaters?
