Looking for job as police officer, criminal record?

I was wrongfully terminated from my prison guard job. Can I still be a police officer?

  • I still can't discuss it much as it is too painful, but I was terminated from my position as corrections officer in 2008. The charge was insubordination. It was founded that I was sexually harassed and physically assaulted by two other officers but because I was still a cadet, the fact that I had disobeyed an order, even though my superior was out of line, was grounds for termination... based on the lies that were told. It was never founded as 'wrongful termination' because I couldn't afford to prove my case and there was a massive cover up. I have wanted to be involved with law enforcement since I was a child. I have lived morally and ethically so that I could one day earn the title 'officer of the law.' I lead by example and I believe that I embody all that a police officer should be. I am currently going back to school while working full time and being a mother so that I can apply to be a city police officer. But... will they even consider me with a termination on my record from a position as a corrections officer?

  • Answer:

It certainly won't help, but it's not neccessarily the end of the line. Carry on pursuing it and if it comes up explain your situation (not in too much detail) and explain that you have no problem with following orders in a normal and acceptable situation.
