What should I do if the landlord is just not fixing things?

My husband and I let our Son and his family move back here Now their old landlord is threatening them.?

  • Every day for 3 weeks they have had an Ugly phone calll from him. With calling the Cops and getting My house searched. For what I am not sure. Going to turn them into Animal control for pets they left. We brought all their animals to our house. The animals he is talking about DO NOT belong to my son and his family. The one belongs to the Neighbor behind them. And they do NOT know where the other one came from it just showed up. They lived in this apartment for 4 years. 2 of them were with a Lease the other 2 were not. In the 4 years they Never received a Rental receipt from the Guy. About 6 weeks ago someone turned them into DHS for NO Food and for her sister abusing her kids. And so the DHS worker came out for 3 visits then closed the case. Her sister no longer is with them She moved back to her parents. But this Guy is calling my Sons Wifes Cell Phone leaving Ugly Messages about turning her into DHS and taking their Kids, and Animal Control, And to the Cops for Damaging his place. This landlord is a Slum Lord. When the DHS worker showed up at thier Apartment 6 weeks ago they Called the Landlord and got onto him for Not fixing the A/C, and for the Roach Infestation. He told them to NEVER call him again about this apartment Because He hated DHS and Refused to be threatened By them for not Fixing things. And He refused to spray the place or fix the A/c. that was that. So now he is calling here with the threats. Do I have to let the Cops or DHS search MY home.My son is NOT on any of my papers for even living here. We are Buying our home. I have nothing to hide. But since I am not on his case with his old landlord Why do I have to tolerate this in Our home.

    Stick to the law and your son will be better off. It sounds to me like he trashed the place and involved in something illegal. Taking your adult son's side here looks like it will end up costing you plenty. I'm a landlord in Indiana.

they are not calling your son and his partner they are calling your house. You need to talk to the police concerning this persons stalking and deranged behaviour. Get an AVO onto him. If he wan'ts to fight about rental property he needs to take it to the courts not to threaten you and your family. Now please call the police and tell them that this man is harassing you to the point of fear and you are scared to leave your home unattended and your daughter in law alone with her children because he could be watching. Also TAPE all of his calls. DOCUMENT EVERY TIME HE HAS CALLED and calls. Call the telephone company and tell them you have a stalker who keeps calling and if you are in australia they willl ask you if you know the number that keeps calling and if you don't they will ask you to note the exact time they call and they can then locate them and watch their movements and give evidence on your behalf to police. Keep evidence and keep your words short and don't antagonise him. stop being on the defensive and go on the offensive. He thinks he can bully but how will he like being stood up to with force of the law and evidence to back your claims.

Get a lawyer and record all phone calls from him file a no contact order and harassment charges against this nut case it sounds to me he is trying to cause trouble for to keep any interferance away from him. I would suggest that you have the police sit on him and learn what is really going on and why the threats. I would suggest that you contact DHS and talk to them about the situation and let them come out if you wish.
