Are my chances any higher on getting a CCW in California for being in the AF?

  • Hey guys, I am just curious, are my chances higher on getting a CCW for my situation? I am not quite 21 yet, but I will be soon. I am in the USAF Reserves, as a Avionics Maintenance crew member. My rank is E2, if that matters at all. I have always wanted to be armed at all times, since I live in a pretty bad part of California (hayward). My brother is a deputy for a local county, also. So, under these circumstances, are my chances any better on getting a CCW? I really don't want to open carry, as that just draws unneeded attention. Thanks! Also, if this helps at all, my rap sheet is clean (no criminal records whatsoever). I do know the police chief in my city, but I believe the Sheriff of my current county is the one to decide who gets the CCW's.

You can not, in any state carry a concealed weapon under the age of 21. Being in the Air Force does not afford any special privileges or favor in regard to a concealed carry license

You will not legally be able to carry a concealed handgun if you are under 21 in California. Being in the Air Force will afford you no 'special privilege in that regard. From 1987 to 2006, Alameda County issued (in their WORST year - 100 CCW licenses) only 203 CCW licenses and that was in 2003. Once you have turned 21, It's not WHAT you know there, it is WHO you know... I know Dublin PD has issued some permits, but not many. If you know YOUR Local Police Chief, ask him.
