Victim of scam, how do I get help?

  • I went to a vocational training center I saw advertised online to get some certifications, when I got there I found I would receive no certifications and they stuck me with an astronomical fee, so I realized it was a scam and left. Now they have police from another state coming to my parents house saying there's a "misdemeanor" warrant out for me but they won't say what it's for. Local police have told me it sounds bogus but I don't want a warrant in another state out for me and I don't want to be sucked up into this scam. Help, what do I do?

    Have the police check to see if you have a crime record, and a warrant from the center. I doubt it, though; scammers wouldn't actually put out a warrant for someone, knowing fully well that person could easily retaliate with their own warrant claim. In any case, please be sure next time to thoroughly research before involving yourself with an online advertisement. Snakes are everywhere. Report the scam center to the police, and watch how quickly the tables turn.

SCAM- I don't know of many police departments in todays economy that would extradite from another state for a misdemeanor especially one like this. Did they leave a number with your mother. If so take this number down to your local police and tell them your story. ADDITIONAQL COMMENT Unless you are leaving something out this sounds like a civil matter. If they are threatening you with criminal charges you need to find out if this is bull or whatever. DO NOT USE YOU PHONE OR ANY PHONE CONNECTED TO YOU OR YOUR FAMILY-Try to find a pay phone and call the number and ask what they want. Write everything down, record it if possible, get names and times. DO NOT VOLUNTEER ANY INFORMATION. Tell them to send you a registered letter with all the facts and charges and who is making the complaint. Tell them you will then settle the matter. Do not give them any information concerning you address. They went to you mothers, they have that. Tell them to send it there ICO (in care of you mother)
