Whats a civil service exam?

Taking the civil service exam, Life long dream to be a police officer, need advice?

  • im taking the civil service exam for law enforcement: Im in my 30's when i was 19 had DUI in another state i lived in, blew a .01, then again when I was 22 in the same state. Now I also was arrested for Gross sexual assault, went to court found not guilty by a trail, of course because i was innocent! However, I also have several traffic violations during my life, speeding, unsafe operation, of course the DUI's. Over the past three years have had a few traffic infractions. My point is will an agency hire me?? I have no felonies, and no major criminal record. I have been arrested for stupid things when i was younger (disorderly conduct, civil charge for pot)

  • Answer:

Not likely. All agencies require by law that you have an exlempary driving record for the past 5 years. Also require you to have no arrests (not convictions, just arrests) for the past 10 years & cannot have a felony & no DUI convictions. The 2 DUI would disqualify you alone. All the civil service exam is, is questions based on common or basic knowledge. How you spell things, grammar questions & math questions. You need to find the agency you want to work for & ask them what qualifications you need to be a law enforcement officer. Good luck!
