What is the Australian equivalent of S.W.A.T. called?

Wouldn't it be better to be on the Sheriff County's SWAT instead of your local SWAT?

  • Becuase Sheriff have more jurisdiction so you could be called up to more places and not just locally. My city is LA and LA County is huge, so LA County Sheriff SED would be better then LAPD SWAT if you want more action right?

  • Answer:

If you want more action go to the strip club.

Think more about the population density than the size. More people in a smaller area the more chance of problems. My cities SWAT teams get called out on a daily basis. 6 teams, average one call out a day over a 28 day period last summer. Our county guys rarely get called out and if they do it is just to supplement or assist the smaller towns teams.

If lots of action is what you seek, you may not be cut out for that line of work. Most of the time, "SWAT" means "Sit, Wait, And Talk." Also, it's a fair bet that most of the LA area suburb PD's have their own similar units.

Yes and no. Just because the county is geographically bigger than the actual city of LA, doesn't mean anything. There are numerous cities with in the county that have their own police department, Inglewood, Redondo, Hawthorne, etc. Most of these cities have their own SWAT teams.
