What do I need to do to become a police officer in New Jersey?

In Ohio, does a person need to go to college to become a police officer?

    There are minimal standards established by law, which do not include college degrees, and there are actual hiring standards established by various police agencies. Some include degrees and some do not. There are no FBI agents without a degree, but the deputies of the sheriff in the smallest county in Ohio are not required to have degrees.

Yes you need college

A related education is a big plus in becoming a law enforcement officer. The more education and/or experience you have gets you farther up the ladder mush faster. Unless you would be satisfied with being a road patrol officer all your life. Military experience is probably better than some collage education like a non law enforcement related collage course like art or basket weaving. But Military experience is top of the line in most police agency's. Getting both an education and military experience would place you far ahead of some one without any experience and no more than a High School education.

I don;t ; know about Ohio, butin Pennsylvania, youneed 60 college creditsor equivalent experience. Plus, you must go through the police academy. May I suggest you google" Ohio Strate police"

Book learning (college) never hurt anyone. But, even a with multitude of degrees the REAL learning about police work begins with your first time on the streets. That is where your REAL education begins. You will learn more about people than you ever dreamed of. Just hope you get a good partner during your field training period, he just may keep you alive!
