Question about Law Enforcement background check..?

  • I'm applying for a police department position and have a question about background... I have a clean criminal record and never been in trouble with the law. However, I was questioned about an incident by the police but was not charged nor a suspect. Does police questioning appear in background checks? If so, will it hinder me from getting the position?

    Depending on how deep they dig, they could possibly find out you were questioned, but if you had no involvement, then you should be in the clear. Do not try to hide anything, or else you will probably be eliminated for that.

Eh, it MIGHT appear, depends on how hard your investigator searches. But that doesn't mater, you know why? You're going to tell him/her about this incident. The whole point of all this hublub background investigation crap is to see what type of a person you are. You know how when you first got your background packet there was a lot of talk about lying and omission? This would be an omission. You need to tell your investigator about it so you can EXPLAIN why you were in that situation and how you learned from it. What is going to be worse, you tell him about it, explain why you were in that situation and how you corrected any problems that may have come from it, or he discovers it on his own and DQs you on the spot. Tell the truth and you'll be in like a dirty shirt. Trust me. Good luck!
