Anyone know anything about Florida (Panama City) law?

• So here's the problem.. my brother was a really big dummy and decided to get himself arrested the other night. he was charged with operating unsafe equipment (head light blown), open container, driving under the influence, and possession of marijuana (more than 20 grams). STUPID I KNOW! He is almost 30 and has never been in any legal trouble before. He has taken it upon himself to start going to AA meetings and Narcotics anonymous in hopes this will make the judge a little more lenient on him. He spoke to a lawyer who wants $8000 to take his case. We do not have the means to come up with that amount of money! Now I totally understand that this is a seriously situation, but I cannot bare to know my brother could possibly spend time in jail for his ignorance. Do you think he will do time for a first time offender? Please only serious answers. I am already aware it was stupid, I don't need you to remind me of that=D

  Since he can't afford a private attorney, tell him to call the Public Defender's Office. Depending on the judge, he may have to do a little jail time. I think once he's talked with an attorney, he may be able to get a plea bargain. That would result in heavy fines and probation. Both are misdemeanors in the state of Florida, so your brother may skate on the jail time. BTW, the Public Defender Office charges will be less than 1,000.00. But he'll have to attend DUI school, at a cost, pay for a business purposes only DL, and the fines for his citations. Plus the monthly probation charges. It's going to be expensive even without a private attorney.
