Do repo men work with the police?

  • Like for instance if they cant find a car do they go to the police for help?

    No. However, they usually call us after they have repossessed a car and tell us what they did. A lot of people try to report their cars stolen when they get repossessed. I always ask if the owner of the car was behind on payments or anything and it is amazing how many people lie to me and tell me they were paid up........later I find they weren't and the car was just repossessed. I don't know what they expect to gain by it but for some reason I have taken some stolen auto reports that were really just repos.

no the police can't help you find a car but when you do find the car and the owner tries to beat you or shoot you then the police will come and help

As a former Repossession specialist I always called the police department before doing the repo to advise them of it. As for the police helping you find a vehicle it is not their job and most will not help out in such matters as the information can be easily obtained via the Internet. However the police can be very helpful if such parties decide to either shoot at you or cause you physical harm the person who is behind on their payments will be charged with the crime that they committed. I must also point out it is illegal to go into someone's garage and take the vehicle if it is outside you can take it but not in doors as this is breaking an entering and you can be charged with the crime

many times the repo guys have connections with the police however, the repo guys also have access to public records (vehicle, employment, residence) so they can locate the knucklehead who didn't want to pay their bills.
