Are there any Massachusetts Homeschoolers around?

In Massachusetts, can I carry a sword around in public?

  • Yeah, question really asks it all. I bought http://lusipurr.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Final-Fantasy-VIII-Gunblade-Replica-Picture.jpg(42 inches, including an 11-inch hilt) and http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2009/342/a/0/Crisis_Core_Buster_Blade_by_Blacksmith_McCloud.jpg(Needless to say, it's longer.) and I was wondering if I could carry either of them around in public, sheathed.

  • Answer:

depends on what ****** cop sees you and gets annoyed... then you have trouble. In California you can't even carry a large stick with you (I'm not kidding)... most of the time if there is a reasonable suspicion that you might or could possibly use it as a weapon, then you can be harassed and arrested... cuz our country is land of the free... sigh...

You should be skeptical. His "source" is the stolen profile of a real retired cop who used to be on this forum, Leslie S. He got thrown off by Yahoo because he complained about the identity theft to much and Jim Bob, under a number of names complained about tall of his answers, not matter what. Like all weapons laws it is complicated, just in the description of what is a weapon. Basically you should be OK if sheathed and you do not become disorderly. Mass law (Section 269, section 10(b)) says even having a regular lock back pocket knife is against the law if you are disorderly. BUT you have another problem. Could not load your pic but as I remember from my grandson those have a pistol grip and trigger. You carry that around exposed in any city you will upset and scare the public, one of the many definitions of disorderly conduct.

You can even carry hand grenades and a flame thrower in Massachusetts

Found this on a source so I copied and pasted I am a Massachusetts resident. You can possess any knife but not carry in public any autos, ballistic knives, daggers, stilettos or dirks, which means any double-edge knife. This feature of the law protects collectors, but it does not specify how a collector is to legally carry his/her new purchase to their home, since public carry is a felony. Boston, Lawrence, Cambridge, Revere, Lynn, Salem and Beverly have 2.5" blade limit for knives carried in public. These are local ordinances, punishable by arrest and $300 fine. Worcester also has a blade limit, 3" if I recall correctly. Holders of a Massachusetts Class A licenses to carry firearms (even if restricted to hunting and target shooting) are exempt. For what its worth, I EDC a 4" lock-blade folder at all times. I simply removed the clip and carry it completely concealed. I have spent a lot of time in the above anti-knife jurisdictions and never had a problem. Dress well, practice good concealment and keep a low profile. You should be fine.
