What does conflict of interest mean in this situation?

  • So my friend and I were both arrested (Her for possession of marijuana and me for possession of ecstasy) When it happened I was completely honest and cooperative with the cops but she had lied (not to get me in trouble, but because she didn't want us getting caught, although we did anyways) We have court at the same date and same time. I went to the court today to ask some information I needed and the guy said something about a conflict of interest where I am getting a private attorney instead of just a regular public defender, and she won't get the same attorney as me and something about how they might put us both in different court rooms but at the same time. and I was wondering what conflict of interest means in this situation because he explained it to me but I still don't quite understand it because he wasn't completely clear about it. Thanks~

i dont see any conflict of interest here. C of I is usually about a lawyer having ties to both defendant and plaintilff so he cant take the case. Unless he meant the regard of your interests may conflict with your friends having differant representation with varying ideas on how to go about the trial.
